Can a green terror go with jewel cichlid?

It is generally advisable to avoid keeping green terrors and jewel cichlids together in the same aquarium due to their potential for aggression and differing temperaments. Green terrors (Andinoacara rivulatus) are known to be relatively aggressive and territorial cichlids, while jewel cichlids (Hemichromis bimaculatus) are also territorial but tend to be less aggressive compared to green terrors.

Here are some reasons why keeping green terrors and jewel cichlids together may not be ideal:

1. Territorial Behavior: Both green terrors and jewel cichlids are known to be territorial fish. They may compete for space and resources such as hiding spots and breeding sites, leading to aggression and conflict.

2. Size Difference: Green terrors can grow larger than jewel cichlids, and size differences can sometimes lead to aggressive interactions. Larger fish may intimidate smaller fish, making it difficult for the jewel cichlids to establish their own territories.

3. Aggressive Nature: Green terrors are generally more aggressive than jewel cichlids. They may exhibit territorial behaviors such as chasing, nipping, or even attacking other fish, including jewel cichlids.

4. Incompatible Temperaments: Green terrors and jewel cichlids have different temperaments. While green terrors are typically more assertive and aggressive, jewel cichlids are known to be more peaceful. This difference in temperament can result in conflicts and stress for the jewel cichlids.

5. Breeding Conflicts: Green terrors and jewel cichlids are both known to be territorial when they breed. If both species are kept in the same aquarium, disputes can occur over breeding sites and mates, leading to aggression and stress during breeding seasons.

To create a harmonious aquarium, it is recommended to keep green terrors and jewel cichlids in separate tanks or to choose more compatible tank mates for each species. Consider choosing cichlids of similar temperament, size, and aggression level to ensure a peaceful and stress-free environment for all the fish in your aquarium.
