How do you make simple easy maple sryup?
Ingredients
* 2 gallons maple sap
* 1 large (12-inch) cast iron skillet or Dutch oven
* Candy thermometer
Instructions
1. Pour the maple sap into a large pot and bring to a boil over medium heat.
2. Reduce the heat to low and let the sap simmer for several hours, or until it has reduced to about 1 cup.
3. When the sap has reduced, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
4. Pour the sap into the cast iron skillet or Dutch oven and bring to a boil over medium heat.
5. Reduce the heat to low and let the sap simmer for another hour, or until it has thickened and reached a temperature of 215 degrees Fahrenheit (102 degrees Celsius) on the candy thermometer.
6. Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
7. Pour the syrup into a glass jar or bottle and seal tightly.
8. Store the syrup in a cool, dark place.
Tips
* To make sure that the syrup does not scorch, stir it frequently during the cooking process.
* You can add flavorings, such as vanilla extract or cinnamon, to the syrup before bottling.
