What is a Kraft linerboard?
Kraft linerboard is a type of heavy paperboard made from virgin or recycled kraft pulp. It is used as the primary material in the production of corrugated cardboard boxes. Kraft linerboard is strong, durable, and inexpensive, making it an ideal material for packaging.
The process of making kraft linerboard begins with the pulping of wood fibers. The fibers are then washed, bleached, and dried. The dried fibers are then mixed with water to form a slurry, which is then poured onto a moving wire mesh screen. The water drains through the screen, leaving the fibers behind. The fibers are then pressed and dried to form a continuous sheet of paper.
Kraft linerboard is typically made in rolls, which can be up to 10 feet wide. The rolls are then cut into sheets and shipped to box manufacturers. Box manufacturers use kraft linerboard to create the outer layer of corrugated cardboard boxes. Kraft linerboard is also used to make other paper products, such as bags and envelopes.
Advantages of kraft linerboard:
* Strong and durable
* Inexpensive
* Versatile
* Recyclable
Disadvantages of kraft linerboard:
* Not as strong as some other materials, such as plastic or metal
* Not as water-resistant as some other materials, such as plastic or wax
* Can be susceptible to damage from insects or rodents
