Stainless steel lid stuck to capahalon frying pan. Please advise how remove lid.?
Here are a few possible methods you can try:
1. Soapy Water:
- Fill the sink or a large basin with hot soapy water.
- Immerse the pan with the stuck lid into the soapy water, ensuring the water level is enough to cover the area between the pan and the lid.
- Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to loosen the bond between the lid and the pan.
- Gently try to pry open the lid using a wooden spatula or a heat-resistant utensil. Be careful not to scratch the surface of the cookware.
2. Heat Expansion:
- Turn on the stove and place the pan with the stuck lid over low heat.
- The heat may cause the metal lid to expand and release its grip on the pan.
- After a few minutes, try gently lifting the lid off the pan.
- Use oven mitts or a thick cloth to handle the pan as it will be hot.
3. Rubber Mallet:
- Place a folded kitchen towel or a rag over the stuck lid.
- Gently tap the rag-covered lid with a rubber mallet. Do not use a metal hammer, as it could damage the cookware.
- The vibrations from the tapping may help dislodge the lid.
4. WD-40 or Lubricant:
- Spray some WD-40 or a similar multipurpose lubricant around the seam where the lid and pan meet.
- Let it sit for a few minutes to penetrate the stuck area.
- Try to gently pry open the lid using a wooden spatula or another non-scratching utensil.
5. Freezer:
- If the above methods don't work, you can try placing the pan with the stuck lid in the freezer for several hours or overnight.
- The cold temperatures may cause the metal to contract, breaking the bond between the lid and the pan.
- After removing from the freezer, try gently shaking or prying the lid open.
Remember to protect your hands and surfaces while attempting these methods. If none of these solutions work, you may need to consult a professional who specializes in stainless steel cookware repair. They might have additional strategies or tools to safely remove the stuck lid without causing damage.
