Can you use evaporated milk in place of condensed?

Evaporated milk and condensed milk are both shelf-stable milk products that have had some of the water content removed, although that's where their similarities end. While evaporated milk is simply milk with some of the water removed, condensed milk has sugar added before the milk is heated and concentrated, which gives condensed milk its signature syrupy consistency and sweet taste.

Due to the fact that condensed milk has sugar added, it can't be used as an alternative to evaporated milk in recipes. There is another milk product called "sweetened condensed milk" which is even sweeter and thicker than regular condensed milk; it also should never be used as a replacement for evaporated milk in recipes.
