How do you manual defrost a Kenmore 596 fridge?
To manually defrost a Kenmore 596 fridge, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the power to the refrigerator by unplugging it or turning the circuit breaker to the "Off" position.
2. Remove all food and drinks from the refrigerator and the freezer.
3. Place towels on the floor around the refrigerator to catch the water from the melting ice.
4. Open the freezer door and remove the bottom drawer of the freezer compartment.
5. Put towels on the freezer floor and place a shallow pan on the freezer floor under the refrigeration unit to collect water as the ice melts.
6. Put pots or bowls filled with hot water on shelves and in compartments inside the freezer to speed up the defrosting.
7. Use a plastic spatula to chip away any large chunks of ice that can be easily broken up. Be sure to do this slowly and carefully so that you do not damage the refrigerator or the freezer and avoid contact with your skin.
8. Continue the defrosting process until there are no visible chunks of ice and all of the frost or ice has melted.
9. After defrosting is complete, clean the inside of the fridge with a mixture of baking soda and water. Then, wipe the interior of the fridge dry.
10. Replace all of the drawers, the ice cube trays, and the food to the fridge.
11. Plug the refrigerator back in, or put the appliance breaker to "On" and adjust the temperature settings to your desired level. Allow the refrigerator and the freezer to reach the desired temperatures before restocking with frozen foods and perishable items.
