How to Clean Burned Cast Iron Enamel (8 Steps)
Your cast iron enamel cookware is a significant investment. It is natural to want to keep it looking new and attractive for as long as possible. If you burn food onto the interior of the cast iron enamel cookware, clean it promptly and carefully to avoid permanent damage. Use gentle cleaning compounds and scrubbers to keep the surface of your cookware scratch-free and perfectly clean.
Things You'll Need
- Dishwashing soap
- Dishcloth
- Nylon scrubber
- Baking soda
- Dishtowel
Instructions
-
Cool the cookware down to room temperature before you attempt to wash it. Drastic temperature changes might damage the enamel surfaces of the cookware.
-
Fill the sink with warm water and add several squirts of the dishwashing soap to the water. Swirl the water around with your hands to make the water bubbly.
-
Place the cast iron enamel cookware into the soapy water and use the dishcloth to remove as much of the burnt-on food as possible.
-
Allow the cookware to soak for at least 20 minutes.
-
Use the nylon scrubber to scrub at the burnt-on food after it soaks in the warm water. Continue scrubbing to remove as much of the food as possible.
-
Remove the cookware from the water and assess the pan. If burnt-on food remains on the surface of the cookware, sprinkle the bottom of the pan liberally with baking soda. Scrub the baking soda with the nylon scrubber to remove the remaining burnt food.
-
Place the cookware back into the soapy water and wash it again with the dishcloth. Rinse the cookware thoroughly with warm water and drain off all excess water from the cookware.
-
Dry the cookware by hand with the dishtowel to remove all dampness. Put the enamel cookware away in the cupboard.
