Can you peel a yam and keep it before cooking?
Yams are a type of root vegetable that can be difficult to peel. The skin of a yam is very thin and slippery, and it is easy to cut yourself if you are not careful. However, it is possible to peel a yam and keep it before cooking.
To peel a yam, you will need a sharp knife and a cutting board. First, wash the yam under cold water. Then, use the sharp knife to cut off the ends of the yam. Place the yam on the cutting board and hold it securely with one hand. Use the knife to make a shallow cut in the skin of the yam, starting at one end and working your way around the yam. Be careful not to cut too deeply, as this will damage the yam.
Once you have made a cut around the entire yam, use your hands to peel the skin off of the yam. The skin should come off easily. If the skin does not come off easily, you may need to make another shallow cut in the skin.
Once you have peeled the yam, you can store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to cook it. Yams can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
To cook a yam, you can boil it, steam it, or bake it. Yams can be eaten on their own or added to soups, stews, and casseroles.
