Things You'll Need
- Cutting board
- Chef's knife
- Garlic
Instructions
-
Remove and discard the outer layers of the larger garlic bulb. Once the papery layers are out of the way, separate the individual garlic cloves or pieces from the bulb. Gently pull each clove away from the root where it's connected.
-
Place an individual garlic clove on its side in the middle of the cutting board. Lay the large flat blade of a chef's knife on top of the clove. Use the palm of your hand to smash the garlic clove. If it doesn't open the first time you try, smack it a little bit harder the second time.
-
Pull the covering away from the garlic clove and discard it. Wipe any remains of the papery layer from your cutting board.
-
Lay the garlic clove on its side on the cutting board once again. Beginning at the base end of the clove, slice the garlic into thin slices.
-
Continue using the chef's knife to chop the garlic as fine as you like. Hold the knife in your dominant hand. Hold the tip of the knife on the cutting board and rock the knife in an up and down motion to chop the garlic.
