Measure the rice needed and pour it into the colander. Use 3/4 cup rice to make 1 cup of cooked rice. Use 1 1/2 cups rice to make 2 cups of cooked rice. Use 2 1/3 cups rice to make 4 cups of cooked rice. Rinse the raw rice well under cold running water and shake the colander to remove excess water.

If your microwave is 1,000 watts or more, cook the rice at 70 percent power. If your microwave is less than 1,000 watts, cook the rice at 100 percent power.
-
Allow the rice to stand for 5 minutes after the cooking time elapses and then check to see if the liquid has absorbed. If there is still unabsorbed liquid, microwave for an additional minute or two. Allow the rice to stand for 2 to 3 minutes and then check again.
