How to Make Popcorn From Corn on the Cob
Salty, buttery, crunchy popcorn is a popular treat whether at the movies or at home. However, movie theater popcorn and microwave popcorn we buy for home often contain chemicals, dyes and additives. You can make your own popcorn at home by heating corn kernels on the stove or try popping corn kernels that are still on the cob. Surprisingly, this can easily be done in the microwave as long as you have dried ears of corn.
Things You'll Need
- Microwave
- Dried corn cobs
- Brown paper bag
- Toppings(optional)
Instructions
-
Place the corn cob in a brown paper bag. Fold the open end over several times for a secure close.
-
Place the bag in the microwave for two minutes on high. Listen for the kernel popping to slow down. Remove the bag as soon as the popping slows down to avoid burning the popcorn even if the two minutes are not up.
-
Remove the bag from the microwave and you should have most of the popcorn in the bag and some still on the cob as well. Do not expect every kernel on the cob pop. Carefully pull any popped kernels off of the cob and into the bowl.
-
Add toppings of your choice, such as salt and butter.
