How to Bake Fish With Panko Crumbs (9 Steps)
For those that enjoy fished baked with bread crumbs, using panko bread crumbs instead of the regular kind is a must-try. Panko crumbs are Japanese-style bread crumbs that look like light, tiny flakes. When cooked, the result is lighter, crispier and crunchier than average bread crumbs. Baking with panko bread crumbs will give your fish a lighter texture that will absorb whatever seasoning you use, and it is as easy as using regular bread crumbs.
Things You'll Need
- 4 to 6 oz. skinless white-fleshed fish (any kind)
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1 1/2 tsp. grated lemon zest
- 1 tsp. chopped parsley
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp. lemon pepper seasoning
- 3 tbsp. spicy mustard
- non-stick cooking spray
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking dish with aluminum foil.
-
Combine the panko bread crumbs, lemon zest, minced garlic and parsley in a shallow dish.
-
Pat dry the fish fillets with a paper towel and place on the foil-lined baking sheet.
-
Season the fish with salt and lemon pepper seasoning, then coat the fish evenly with the mustard on both sides.
-
Place each fish fillet one at a time in the panko bread-crumb mixture, gently pressing the panko crumbs into the mustard coating. Coat both sides of the fish evenly.
-
Lightly spray the crumbs on the fish fillet with cooking spray before placing back on the baking sheet.
-
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes per inch of thickness.
-
Remove the baking sheet and turn the oven to broil. Allow the broiler to heat up.
