How to Roast Chicken Quarters (7 Steps)

Chicken quarters can be an economical and tasty choice for family dinners or a large event. Roasting the chicken is a delicious choice for preparing the meat with just a small amount of advance work. Choosing to roast the chicken also gives you the option of adding different spices or flavors to change up the meal. As long as you have an hour to let the oven do most of the work, you should have a fabulous meal and no one will be the wiser as to how easy it was to prepare.

Things You'll Need

  • Chicken quarters
  • Paper towel
  • Roasting pan
  • Meat thermometer

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Rinse the chicken quarters with water, cleaning out any blood or other fluids. Make sure you clean any crevices or other concave spaces.

  3. Pat the chicken quarters dry with paper towel. You will want to make sure the water you used to rinse the chicken is dried off and removed from any hollow areas of the chicken pieces. The chicken skin should be slightly rubbery when dry.

  4. Apply salt and pepper to the chicken quarters. This would also be the point where you would add other spices if you choose.

  5. Place the chicken quarters, skin side up, in the roasting pan. If you do not have a roasting pan, use a pan that is deep enough to collect the drippings.

  6. Put the pan, with the chicken, in the preheated oven. Set the oven timer for 35 minutes.

  7. Check the chicken when the oven timer rings, using your meat thermometer. The temperature should reach 165 degrees F. If it has not come to temperature, place the pan back in the oven and let it cook for another five minutes, then recheck the meat temperature.
