How to Roast and Salt Green Peas (7 Steps)

While you may think that peas are only made one way, boiled in water and served as a dish for meat, you have underestimated the tiny green legume. In some Asian countries, peas are served roasted and crunchy as a snack. For the health conscious, roasted green peas are an ideal alternative to chips and other unhealthy snacks. For flavor, the peas can be sprinkled lightly with salt, or if you enjoy spice, a little cayenne pepper. All you need is a bag of frozen peas to make this healthy snack at home.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 pounds frozen peas, thawed
  • Bowl
  • Baking sheet

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 225 degrees F.

  2. Place the peas in a bowl and gently pat them dry with paper towels to remove as much moisture as possible.

  3. Spray two baking sheets with cooking spray.

  4. Spread the peas out on the baking sheets and lightly spray with cooking oil spray, rolling the peas around to get them evenly coated.

  5. Sprinkle coarse salt over the peas, to taste.

  6. Place both sheets in the oven and bake for three hours, or until the peas are dry. Shake the pans every 30 minutes for even cooking.

  7. Remove the peas from the oven and allow them to cool completely. Enjoy warm, or store in an airtight container.
