How to Freeze Homemade Dumplings
Dumplings, those edible pockets of perfection that are found in nearly every culture around the world, can be filled with everything from potatoes and onions to shrimp and cilantro. While you can buy a variety of frozen dumplings at the supermarket, nothing compares to making them at home and freezing them yourself. But it's critical to make sure you freeze them correctly so that you don't wind up with a sticky mess when it's time to cook and enjoy them in the future.
Things You'll Need
- Baking trays
- Freezer bags
Instructions
-
Place formed, uncooked dumplings in a single layer on a baking tray that will fit flat in your freezer. Make sure that none of the dumplings are touching each other, or else they will fuse together while freezing. Use a light sprinkling of flour, a sheet of wax paper or a nonstick cooking spray to ensure dumplings don't adhere to the tray.
-
Put the baking tray in the freezer, ensuring none of the dumplings shift.
-
Freeze the dumplings for approximately two hours. Remove the baking tray, use a spatula to remove the dumplings from the tray and place the frozen dumplings into a freezer bag. Put the bag back in the freezer until ready to use; dumplings will keep for approximately four months. Use multiple freezer bags to create smaller, meal-size portions.
