Tips for Baking Boneless Chicken Tenders
Chicken tenders, or chicken fingers, as they are often called are usually breaded and deep-fried as part of the preparation process. An alternative method of preparation designed to reduce fat and calories but maintain the same level of taste is baking chicken tenders in the oven. Ditching the oil doesn't mean that you have to sacrifice texture or flavor when preparing chicken tenders.
Making the Cut

To bake delicious boneless chicken tenders, you must have the right pieces cut the right way. Use boneless chicken breast to create your tenders and a sharp knife to cut them into strips that are roughly 1 to 1 1/2 inches wide. If the breasts are thicker than normal, slice them in half length-wise before you make the strips. Disinfect the cutting board afterward, and don't use the knife for anything else until it has been washed.

Crispy chicken tenders replicate the deep-fried version most closely, so take a few steps to ensure a crispy coating before sending them into the oven. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit, then add olive oil or vegetable oil to one bowl and mix panko bread crumbs and parmesan cheese in another bowl. Coat each chicken tender with oil and then the bread crumb and parmesan mixture and position it on a baking sheet. Once the baking sheet is full of tenders you can bake them for about 20 minutes, turning them over halfway.

Flavor is always the name of the game with chicken tenders, so add as much as you can during the process. Boneless tenders have no bone to add moisture and extra flavor like chicken wings, but they can be tossed in a liquid seasoning such as hot sauce or honey garlic when they are removed from the oven.

Safety is always the key component when baking chicken, so stick to guidelines concerning proper internal cooking temperatures. The Foodsafety.gov website recommends 165 degrees F for chicken. Follow your recipe closely and use a meat thermometer in the thickest part of the chicken tender to know for sure.
