How to Make a Roast Beef Sub With Mushrooms

Mushrooms go hand in hand with a roast beef sub, adding another layer of flavor to this meaty sandwich. Roast beef subs can be served cold or hot, and typically include a horseradish or mayonnaise spread. Hot roast beef is sometimes smothered in gravy as well. Adding sauteed mushrooms to your roast beef sub is quick and easy, increasing your sandwich prep time by only a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Saucepan
  • Butter or olive oil
  • White mushrooms, sliced
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Submarine roll
  • Condiments, like mustard, mayonnaise or horseradish

Instructions

  1. Coat a saucepan with butter or olive oil and place it on the stove over medium heat.

  2. Add sliced mushrooms and saute until soft. Season with salt and pepper and set aside on a plate.

  3. Add more butter or oil to the saucepan, then add thinly-sliced roast beef and cook until just heated through. Place the meat on paper towels to drain. Alternatively, if you want a wet, gravy roast beef sub, add gravy to the pan along with the slices of beef.

  4. Turn the oven on to the broiler setting. Split the sub sandwich roll and spread butter lightly on both sides.

  5. Place the bread on the baking sheet, cut-side up, and stick it in the oven until lightly toasted.

  6. Spread condiments like mustard, mayonnaise or horseradish onto the bread. Top one of the sandwich roll halves with the roast beef, then the mushrooms. Cover with the other half and enjoy.
