How long does a boil last?
Boils typically last for around 2 weeks, but can sometimes last for up to 3 weeks. They usually start off as a small, hard, red bump on the skin, and over the course of a few days they will grow in size and become filled with pus. The boil will then eventually burst and drain, and the skin will begin to heal.
If a boil is particularly large or painful, it may need to be seen by a doctor, who may prescribe antibiotics or drain the boil. Boils should not be squeezed or popped, as this can lead to infection.
