How to Bake Spiral Ham
Whether it's Easter, Christmas, or a special Sunday dinner, you can't go wrong with spiral ham. Spiral ham is precooked ham that is spiral cut. Spiral cutting is the process of one continuous even cut all the way around the ham, from one end to the other. It allows you to serve the ham easily without any mess. Serve the ham with mashed potatoes, peas, squash, pineapple and rolls for a hearty dinner. Top off the meal with lemon meringue or key lime pie.
Things You'll Need
- Spiral ham
- Roasting rack
- Glaze
- Meat thermometer
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Place the oven rack on the lowest or second-lowest position in the oven.
-
Remove the wrapper and glaze packet that came with the ham. Place the ham in a roasting pan with the cut side down. Cover it loosely with aluminum foil.
-
Bake the ham until the internal temperature is 140 degrees. Place the thermometer into the center of the ham and wait a few minutes for the temperature to register. The ham will need approximately 12 to 15 minutes for each pound.
-
Follow the directions on the glaze package, and brush the glaze on the ham and return it to the oven without the aluminum foil. Raise the temperature to 400 degrees and bake 10 to 15 minutes, until the glaze is bubbly.
-
Remove the ham. Let the ham set for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Serve it with pineapple or apple chutney.
