How to Make Lime Green Cake Coloring (6 Steps)
Kids often have strong opinions about their birthday cakes or special-occasion cakes. Even if you aren't the best cake decorator, you can surprise your child or the child at heart in your life with a bright lime green cake. You can't easily buy lime green cake coloring, but you can mix your own. Getting a bold and clear color in a cake can be difficult, but it is not impossible. Add coordinating frosting for a fun lime green cake treat.
Things You'll Need
- Green food coloring
- Yellow food coloring
- Small plastic cup
- White cake mix or ingredients to make a white cake
- White frosting, homemade or purchased
How to Make Lime Green Cake Coloring
-
Mix up batter for a white cake using a mix or your favorite recipe (see Resources).
-
Combine six parts yellow food coloring with one part green food coloring in a separate cup. Measure out your food coloring drop by drop if you are using standard liquid food colorings from the grocery store.
-
Use paste food coloring from the cake-decorating section as an alternative to liquid food colorings. Add the pastes to the cup in the same six-to-one ratio; however, a much smaller amount of concentrated paste is required to achieve the same color.
-
Make more of the lime green food coloring mixture than you expect to need. Save the remaining coloring to tint the frosting to match your cake.
-
Stir the lime green food coloring mixture into your cake batter a small amount at a time. Keep in mind that a lot of coloring is needed in order to achieve a true color after baking.
-
Stir the remaining lime green food coloring into white cake icing. Ice and decorate your lime green cake as desired.
