How to Make Your Own Tapioca Flour

Tapioca flour can be a challenge to track down but it is simple to make your own. Tapioca flour is a slightly sweet, white starchy flour derived from the cassava root. Tapioca flour is also grain-free so it is a choice for those who are following a gluten-free diet. Tapioca flour can be used in place of regular flour for baking and works well for making cakes, muffins, breads and almost anything else that calls for flour.

Things You'll Need

  • Coffee grinder
  • Tapioca pearls
  • Airtight container

Instructions

  1. Open the lid of the coffee grinder and pour tapioca pearls inside. The amount of pearls to use will depend on the size of the coffee grinder and also the amount of flour you need. Fill the coffee grinder about halfway full of tapioca pearls.

  2. Place the lid back on the coffee grinder and turn the grinder on. Grind the tapioca pearls into an ultra-fine consistency.

  3. Remove the tapioca flour from the coffee grinder. Use the tapioca flour immediately or pour it into an airtight container. Seal the container and store the tapioca flour in the refrigerator until it is needed.
