How to Properly Cook Lentils (4 Steps)
Lentils are part of the legume family, closely related to beans and peas. They are an inexpensive and quick way to introduce a great deal of nutrition into your everyday diet. High in fiber and protein and very low in fat, they are a wonderful way to replace everyday foods that are high in carbohydrates and starches. Lentils bring a nutty flavor to dishes, and can be used with just about any type of seasoning.
Things You'll Need
- Lentils
- Water or stock
- Salt to taste

-
Turn the heat down to low and cover to let the lentils simmer. 20 minutes is a good starting point, but you'll need to boil them until tender.
