How to Bake Banana Bread at a High Altitude
The lower air pressure of high-elevation locations cause air bubbles to be trapped in banana bread batter. This can make the bread dry. You can avoid this by following a recipe that uses modified proportions of ingredients. This recipe is easy to follow and uses all of the same basic ingredients you'd expect in a banana bread recipe.
Things You'll Need
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. baking power
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 to 3 ripe bananas
- 4 tbsp. softened butter
- Two mixing bowls
- 9 inch x 5 inch inch loaf pan
- Toothpick
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit while you prepare the batter.
-
Mix the softened butter, eggs and bananas until they are well mixed and the bananas are completely mashed with no small chunks left in the mixture. Pour in the sugar and thoroughly mix it in.
-
Mix the salt, baking soda and powder and cinnamon in a separate bowl. You can also mix in additional ingredients such as chocolate chips or walnuts if you like.
-
Pour the mixture from the previous step into the batter and mix it thoroughly.
-
Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan that measures 9 inches by 5 inches.
-
Allow the bread to bake for 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 50 minutes. You may prematurely test if it's ready by inserting a toothpick and seeing if it comes out clean.
-
Remove the bread from the oven and turn the oven off. Let the pan cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
