How to Decorate a Cheetah Cake (8 Steps)

Consider creating a cheetah print cake for someone in your life. A cheetah cake is a perfect idea for a number of occasions. For example, you could create a cheetah cake for a child who likes animals, a baby shower with a jungle theme or a birthday cake for an adult who is into animal print. Creating a cake that is decorated with animal print is not as difficult as it may seem. With a few ingredients and some simple techniques, you can create a cheetah cake that will look like a professional baker made it.

Things You'll Need

  • Round cake
  • Cake platter
  • Tan frosting
  • Frosting knife
  • Black fondant
  • Brown fondant
  • Tan fondant
  • Rolling pin
  • X-acto knife

Instructions

  1. Place a round cake on the center of a cake platter.

  2. Use a frosting knife to frost the cake with tan frosting.

  3. Roll your black, brown and tan fondant out to an 1/8 inch thickness using your rolling pin. Make sure that the fondant remains smooth and does not have wrinkles.

  4. Cut a small, oblong shape out of the black fondant using your X-acto knife. The shape does not have to be perfect and can have jagged edges. This shape is going to be the base of your cheetah print decorations. This shape will serve as the base of your cheetah spot. As you continue creating spots, vary their sizes, from about 2 inches long to about 1 inch long.

  5. Cut a smaller similar shape out of the brown fondant and use a dab of frosting to stick it onto the top of the black fondant shape.

  6. Cut a smaller shape out of the tan fondant and use a bit of fondant to stick it onto the brown fondant.

  7. Stick the three pieces of layered fondant onto the tan cake. Begin placing the spots at the center of the top of the cake and continue out from there. Look at a picture of a cheetah as a reference if it helps. The spots should be in a random pattern, as a specific pattern will make the cake look unlike a cheetah.

  8. Repeat the above steps until the cake is covered with a cheetah print look. Create some layered fondant shapes that are larger and others that are smaller. They do not have to be close together on the cake.
