How to Bake Cornbread in the Broiler
Because so few restaurants serve cornbread, this filling comfort food is associated with home cooking and meals around the dinner table. Make cornbread just like you remember from your childhood by incorporating broiling as a step in the baking process. Broiling will keep the cornbread from turning out pale and will give a tasty brown top to any cornbread.
Instructions
-
Move an oven rack to the upper third of the oven. Preheat the oven and prepare the cornbread batter as directed by the recipe.
-
Bake the cornbread until it is firm to the touch, but still pale on top.
-
Turn on the broiler. Move the cornbread to the top rack in the oven. Broil it for one to two minutes, watching closely to make sure it doesn't burn.
-
Take the cornbread out of the oven when the top is browned to your satisfaction.
