How to Cut an Ice Bucket Cake (5 Steps)
A cake shaped like an ice bucket often impresses guests due to the detail and realistic nature of its icing. This cake can be used at almost any celebration, from births to graduations to retirement parties, as it symbolizes a party. The cake is created out of fondant and, as such, can be difficult to cut, especially if there are extra fondant pieces, such as a shaped wine or Champagne bottle sticking out the top. With time, patience and an eye for detail, the cake does not have to end up in shambles as it is served.
Things You'll Need
- Fondant ice bucket cake
- Serrated knife
- Paper napkins
Instructions

Place the cake on your work surface or the table from which it will be served. Turn it towards you or where the guest of honor will be standing for easy cutting access.

Remove any bottles from the top of the cake -- if real, simply pull them out; if made out of cake and icing, cut them off to create an even top of the bucket. Serve the iced bottles as individual pieces, if made out of cake.

Place the serrated knife on one side of the piece you wish cut, touching the center of the cake if cutting it into triangles or running from one side of the cake to the other if cutting square pieces.

Cut the cake using a slow back and forth motion with the serrated edge of the knife. This will prevent the cake from compressing as you cut and reduce the amount of cake that balls on the knife.

Wipe the blade of the knife on a paper napkin to remove any icing or cake that has stuck to it. This will make the next cut clean. Cut the piece out fully using a second cut with the same motion. Continue to cut the cake using steps three, four and five.
