How to Glaze Doughnuts With Honey (6 Steps)

Whether you fry or bake your own doughnuts at home, what you add to the freshly cooked doughnuts makes all the difference in just how tasty they are. If you plan on glazing the doughnuts, it's hard to beat a classic and simple sugar glaze. However, for honey lovers, the sticky sweetness of honey-glazed doughnuts takes them to a whole new level. Depending on your preferences you can make a basic sweet honey glaze or a creamier, thicker version.

Things You'll Need

  • Freshly baked doughnuts
  • Honey
  • Saucepan
  • Wire whisk
  • Sugar
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Vanilla
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels
  • Powdered sugar
  • Whole milk or buttermilk

Basic Honey Glaze

  1. Combine honey and water in a saucepan on the stove, over medium heat. To make a thin enough glaze, add one part water for every two parts honey in the saucepan. Although this is the very basic glaze, you can add more flavor by adding additional ingredients, including one part each of sugar and butter, as well as a dash or so of cinnamon, nutmeg and a splash of vanilla.

  2. Bring the ingredients to a boil in the saucepan, stirring constantly. Remove from heat immediately after it starts boiling.

  3. Dip the freshly cooked donuts into the hot honey glaze while still warm, using tongs, and place each one on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve them immediately.

Creamy Honey Glaze

  1. Whisk together equal parts honey and powdered sugar.

  2. Stir in enough milk to create a pourable creamy glaze. You can use whole milk or buttermilk depending on your taste preference.

  3. Dip your doughnuts halfway into the glaze using tongs and place on paper towels. The creamy glaze will drip down the sides, coating most of the doughnut.
