How do you make hard marshmallows?
To make hard marshmallows, you will need:
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup white corn syrup
- 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large egg whites
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Line a 9x13 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, bring the water, granulated sugar, and corn syrup to a boil. Stir occasionally to prevent the mixture from burning.
3. Reduce the heat to low and add the unflavored gelatin and salt. Stir until the gelatin and salt have completely dissolved.
4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
5. In a clean mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until they are stiff peaks form.
6. Gradually add the cooled sugar mixture to the beaten egg whites, while continuing to beat.
7. Add the vanilla extract and beat until the mixture is well combined.
8. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and smooth out the top.
9. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight until firm.
10. To serve, cut the hard marshmallows into squares and enjoy.
Tips:
- For a more intense marshmallow flavor, use double the amount of vanilla extract.
- To make the marshmallows a little softer, leave them out at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
- The marshmallows can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
