Directions on How to Cook Old Fashioned Quaker Oatmeal
Oatmeal was used as food for animals for many years, but it became popular in America when the Quaker Oat Company opened in 1877 and started selling the rolled oat cereal. It is a comforting food to eat on a cold winter's morning. Before you reach for the instant oatmeal, take a few minutes and make a bowl of old-fashioned Quaker oatmeal. You will be surprised at how easy it is to cook and may never want to make instant again.
Things You'll Need
- 1 chopped apple
- 1 tbsp. of raisins
- Pot
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of old-fashioned Quaker oats
- Bowl
- 1 tsp. of brown sugar
Instructions

Prepare the fruit. Clean the apple and remove the core. Chop the apple into pieces. Measure 1 tbsp. of raisins.

Place 1 cup of water in a pot. Add 1/2 cup of Quaker old-fashioned oats. Add the chopped apple pieces and 1 tbsp. of raisins.

Turn the stove to medium heat and place the pot on the stove.

Bring the water and oatmeal to a boil, then cook for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally with a large spoon.

Remove the oatmeal from the stove and place in a bowl. Sprinkle the top of the oatmeal with 1 tsp. of brown sugar.
