How do you make nata starter?
To make a nata starter, also known as kefir or Tibetan milk kefir grains, you will need:
Ingredients:
1 cup of unflavored, organic whole milk
1 tablespoon of kefir grains (if you don't have any, you can purchase kefir grains online or from a local health food store)
Instructions:
1. Clean a glass jar thoroughly and sterilize it by boiling it in water for a minute or so.
2. Pour the unflavored, organic whole milk into the glass jar.
3. Add the kefir grains to the jar and stir gently to mix.
4. Cover the jar with a cloth, cheesecloth, or a coffee filter and secure it with a rubber band.
5. Place the jar in a warm, dark place for 24-48 hours, depending on how thick you want the kefir to be.
6. Strain the kefir through a fine sieve into a clean glass jar.
Tips:
- The kefir grains will grow in size as they feed on the milk. If they become too large, you can split them in half with a clean knife.
