Bread day of dead without yeast?

Mexican Pan de Muerto: Yeast-Free Version

Ingredients:

- 500g all-purpose flour

- 1 teaspoon baking soda

- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1 cup sugar

- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

- 1 egg

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1/4 cup orange juice

Instructions:

- Preheat the oven to 200°C (390° F). Grease a baking tray and set aside.

- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

- In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, softened butter, egg, vanilla extract, and orange juice until smooth.

- Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a soft and slightly sticky dough forms.

- Turn the dough out onto a well-floured work surface and knead gently for a few minutes until the dough comes together and is smooth.

- Shape the dough into a large skull shape. Traditionally, Pan de Muerto has decorative designs that resemble bones on the top, which can be created using a knife or toothpick.

- Place the skull-shaped dough on the prepared baking sheet.

- Brush the top of the dough with a little water and sprinkle with some extra sugar.

- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

- Allow the Pan de Muerto to cool completely before slicing and enjoying.

Note: While this version of Pan de Muerto is made without yeast, it will not have the same texture as the traditional yeasted version. However, it still provides a delicious and satisfying alternative if you don't have access to yeast or prefer a yeast-free option.
