How to Make Toasted Bread Sticks With Sliced Bread
Traditional homemade breadsticks made from white bread dough are a classic complement to any hearty meal of comfort foods. However, when you don't have the time to bake dough from scratch, you can simply use regular sliced white bread to make toasted breadsticks. Although different from the more classic versions, these easy-to-make breadsticks are just as tasty and are ready in minutes.
Things You'll Need
- White sliced bread
- Butter
- Garlic, optional
- Chopped herbs, optional
- Cutting board
- Serrated knife
- Baking sheet
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Spread softened butter one side of each slice of bread. You can add minced garlic and herbs, such as chopped parsley, basil or dill, to the butter for more flavor. You can also use spreadable margarine.
-
Stack the buttered slices of bread on top of each other on a clean cutting board. Stack only about four or five slices of bread at a time to make it easier to cut.
-
Cut through the stack of bread with a serrated knife so that each slice of bread is cut into four even pieces.
-
Spread the strips of bread onto an ungreased baking sheet, with the buttered side up.
-
Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes, or until the bread sticks are toasted to your liking. Serve hot.
