How to Make Easy Bread Machine Dinner Rolls (8 Steps)
Homemade dinner rolls are a rare treat in many homes. Mixing and kneading bread dough can be such a complicated and difficult process many people prefer to buy commercial rolls for family meals. If you own a bread machine, this doesn't have to be true in your home. Bread machines are, in essence, dough making and baking machines. Use your machine to create bread dough and bake simple rolls with the results.
Things You'll Need
- Bread machine mix
- Flour
- Dough knife or butter knife
- Vegetable oil
- Cookie sheets
- Plastic wrap
Instructions
-
Place the ingredients from the bread machine mix into your machine. Follow the bread mix manufacturer's directions for the order in which to add ingredients.
-
Close the lid to the bread machine. Press the select button to choose the "Dough" setting. Press or hold the "Start" button to start the machine mixing.
-
Unplug the machine when the mixing stops. Remove the bread pan from the machine and dump the dough out onto a floured counter or work surface.
-
Coat a cookie sheet or baking pan with a thin layer of vegetable oil.
-
Cut pieces of dough from the main dough mass and roll them into two-inch balls. Stretch the top of each dough ball and pull the dough from the sides around toward the bottom of the ball. This will create a smooth top on the dough ball.
-
Place the dough ball onto the oiled pan, smooth side down. Pick up the ball and turn it over so that the oiled side is on top. Repeat this with the rest of the dough until the pan is filled.
-
Cut off a sheet of plastic wrap slightly larger than the pan. Lay the plastic over the dough. Push down on top of each dough ball very slightly so that the plastic sticks to the oil on top of the dough. Push the plastic down between each dough ball to minimize the air that gets to the dough. Set the pan in a warm spot where it won't be disturbed.
-
Remove the plastic from the dough when the balls are about twice the size. This should take 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the heat and humidity in your kitchen. Bake the rolls in a 375 F oven for about 15 minutes, or until they are a deep golden brown.
