How do you make honey bacon?
Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450 grams) pork belly
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) honey
- 2 teaspoons (10 grams) dark brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon (5 grams) kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 grams) freshly ground black pepper
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C).
2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
4. In a large bowl, combine the honey, brown sugar, maple syrup, salt, and pepper. Whisk to combine.
5. Add the pork belly to the bowl and turn to coat in the marinade.
6. Transfer the pork belly to the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
7. Flip the pork belly and baste with any remaining marinade.
8. Bake the pork belly for another 20-25 minutes or until it is cooked through and crispy.
9. Remove the pork belly from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Tips:
- For best results, use a thick cut pork belly.
- You can adjust the amount of honey and brown sugar to your taste.
- If you don't have any pure maple syrup, you can use honey instead.
- If you want a more intense flavour, you can marinate the pork belly for longer.
- Honey bacon is a great addition to breakfast dishes, sandwiches, and salads.
- It also makes a great snack on its own.
