Why the tomatoes plants flower?

Tomatoes are self-pollinating plants, meaning they can produce fruit without cross-pollination. The flowers contain both male and female reproductive organs. When the flowers open, pollen from the stamens (male reproductive organs) falls onto the stigma (female reproductive organ). The pollen then germinates and produces a pollen tube that grows down the style (the tube-shaped structure connecting the stigma to the ovary). The pollen tube contains sperm cells, which fertilize the egg cells in the ovary, leading to the development of seeds and fruit.
