What is a recipe for French onion soup?
Here is a classic recipe to make French Onion Soup:
Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup dry white wine
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 slices French bread, toasted
- 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
Instructions:
1.) In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onions, salt, and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are softened and caramelized, about 25-30 minutes.
2.) Add the white wine and cook for a few minutes, until the liquid is reduced by half.
3.) Stir in the beef broth and bay leaf. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
4.) Preheat your oven's broiler.
5.) Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls or crocks. Top each bowl with a slice of toasted French bread and sprinkle with Gruyère cheese.
6.) Broil the soup until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes.
Serve the soup immediately and enjoy!
