How to Store Pumpkin Seeds Before Roasting
Pumpkins are plentiful during the Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays. Children can carve the pumpkins, and you can save the seeds for roasting later on. Pumpkin seeds contain magnesium, zinc, iron, protein and phosphorus and make a nutritious snack.
Things You'll Need
- Pumpkin
- Carving knife
- Colander
- Water
- Brown paper bags
- Paper towels
- Air-tight containers
Instructions
-
Cut a lid out of your pumpkin with a carving knife so that you can get to your seeds.
-
Scoop the seeds out and place them in a colander.
-
Run the colander under the faucet and work off the stringy skin from the seeds with your hands.
-
Set the seeds on some brown paper bags.
-
Pat the seeds dry with paper towels.
-
Let the seeds sit out overnight so that they dry.
-
Place the seeds in an airtight container and store them in your refrigerator. They will last up to a week in the refrigerator, so you should make sure you roast them before the week is out.
