How to Cook Carrots Like French Fries (5 Steps)

You might not think carrots could ever be a substitute for traditional french fries. However, using carrots to create a french fry-like snack is an alternative to consider when you are looking for healthier options. When they are well-seasoned and baked, carrot fries are a slightly sweet but equally tasty version of traditional fries.

Things You'll Need

  • Vegetable peeler
  • Kitchen knife
  • Cutting board
  • Mixing bowl
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • Seasonings (optional)
  • Baking sheet
  • Spatula

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to about 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Wash and peel several full-sized carrots. Cut off the stem end and tip with a sharp kitchen knife, then cut the carrots into sticks about 1/2-inch wide. It's fine if they are not perfectly uniform in size, as long as they are relatively close.

  3. Toss the carrot sticks in a mixing bowl with a drizzle of olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. You can add other seasonings to your liking as well, such as garlic powder, rosemary, paprika or cumin. The carrots should be well coated with the olive oil and seasonings.

  4. Spread the carrots out in a single layer on an ungreased baking sheet. You can line the baking sheet with foil or parchment paper if you prefer, which makes clean up a little easier.

  5. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the carrots for about 20 to 25 minutes, flipping the carrots halfway through with a spatula. The carrots should be tender and starting to brown. Serve the carrots hot.
