What is pizzagaina?

Pizzagate is a false conspiracy theory alleging a child sex ring was operated out of a Washington, D.C. pizzeria. The conspiracy theory originated on the website 4chan in late October 2016. It alleged that Hillary Clinton and her campaign manager John Podesta were involved in the child sex ring.

There is no evidence to support the claims made in the Pizzagate conspiracy theory. The owner of the pizzeria has repeatedly denied the allegations. The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department has said there is no evidence to suggest there was a child sex ring at the pizzeria.

In addition to being baseless, Pizzagate has had dangerous consequences. In December 2016, a man fired an assault rifle inside the pizzeria after he went to investigate the conspiracy theory. No one was injured in the shooting.
