What country does carrot come from?

The domestic carrot has been selectively bred from the wild carrot, Daucus carota, native to Europe and southwestern Asia. The plant has been cultivated for its edible roots since antiquity, with the first recorded evidence of carrot cultivation dating back to the 10th century in Afghanistan. Carrots were introduced to the Americas by European colonists in the 16th century and have since become a popular vegetable worldwide.
