How to Keep Dumplings From Dissolving
Southern chicken with dumplings is comfort food that uses simple ingredients to stretch out a meager meal. This meal was invented out of necessity, like many other regional dishes. Meat is expensive, so if you have a family to feed, you need to figure out ways to make everyone full. Dumplings are a great filler, but they sometimes dissolve in the cooking broth. This problem is easily solved by making sure your dumplings are formed correctly.
Things You'll Need
- Hot broth in saucepan
- Wooden spoon
- Mixing bowl
- 1 cup flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Package of uncooked layered refrigerator biscuits
Instructions

Heat broth or soup to a simmer in a saucepan.

Place 1 cup of flour in a mixing bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste, and stir. This is the coating for the dumplings that will prevent them from dissolving in the broth.

Place uncooked layered refrigerator biscuits on a plate. Separate the individual layers. Dip each layer in the flour, coating it on both sides. Tear each layer into three pieces.

Lower the heat under your pan of broth as low as possible. Drop dumpling pieces into the pot one at a time. Do not stir the dumplings or they will break up. Use a wooden spoon to push them under the liquid gently. Cook for 10 to 12 minutes.
