What Is Resveratrol?

• Resveratrol is a naturally occurring antimicrobial found in many different things, but specifically in wine. It has many positive effects on the human body. These positives include life extension, cancer prevention and improved diabetes health. In studies conducted on mice, rats and short-lived fish, the average life span of these vertebrates increased. Resveratrol has led to improved health when applied to patients with certain cancers, including melanoma.

Resveratrol in Wine

• The antimicrobial can be found in nearly all wines in different levels. Red wines have a higher concentration than rose and white wines.

Wines With High Concentration

• Global red wines as a whole have between 1.98 and 7.13 mg of resveratrol per liter of red wine. In particular, Spanish red wines contain between 11.92 and 12.59 mg of resveratrol per liter.

Moderate Levels of Resveratrol

• Rose wines and pinot noirs contain moderate amounts of resveratrol. Rose wines, particularly Spanish rose wines, have 0.43 to 3.52 mg of resveratrol per liter. Pinot noirs have 0.40 to 2.0 mg per liter. Pinot noirs are grown all over the world, so their levels of resveratrol will vary.

White Wines

• Contrary to popular belief, white wines do contain a small amount of resveratrol. White wines can have 0.05 to 1.80 mg of resveratrol per liter.
