Where did the color red originate?

Red light has its origins in the earliest stars born in the universe. This first generation of stars were more massive and hotter than the red dwarfs that live on today, and they emitted ultraviolet light. This ultraviolet light was absorbed by the intergalactic hydrogen gas that filled the universe, causing the hydrogen atoms to emit red light as they fell back into their original states.
