What will eat a jellyfish?

Jellyfish have surprisingly few natural predators due to their stinging cells and watery bodies. However, some creatures do brave the sting and feast on these gelatinous invertebrates:

Marine Animals:

* Sea turtles: Especially loggerhead turtles have a strong beak capable of crushing jellyfish.

* Tuna: These large fish are fast enough to catch jellyfish and have a powerful jaw.

* Swordfish: Similar to tuna, they have a strong build and a sharp, pointy beak.

* Sunfish (mola mola): This massive fish consumes large quantities of jellyfish and other gelatinous zooplankton.

* Some species of sharks: While most sharks don't eat jellyfish, a few species have been observed to do so.

* Other fish: Several fish species, particularly those with strong jaws and a tolerance for stings, will eat jellyfish, including some types of cod, halibut, and flounder.

* Birds: Certain seabirds, like the northern gannet, will dive and capture jellyfish.

* Other invertebrates: Some larger invertebrates, like sea anemones and certain types of crabs, might prey on smaller jellyfish.

Important Note: Many animals will eat jellyfish only occasionally. Some animals eat jellyfish as a last resort when other food is scarce.

Also: The types of jellyfish that are eaten vary depending on the predator. Some animals might prefer specific types, while others are more opportunistic.
