Could a swordtail and angelfish be tank mates?
Yes, swordtails and angelfish can be tank mates. Both species are relatively peaceful and do not typically bother other fish. They also have similar water requirements, making them compatible for cohabitation.
Water parameters:
- Swordtails: pH 6.8-8.0, water hardness 9-19 dGH, and a temperature range of 72-82°F (22-28°C).
- Angelfish: pH 6.0-7.8, water hardness of 5-15 dGH, and a temperature range of 75-84°F (24-29°C).
The key to keeping these two species together successfully is to provide them with enough space. In general, the minimum tank size recommended for a single angelfish is 20 gallons (75 liters), while swordtails need even more space. For a community tank, it's generally recommended to provide at least 10 gallons (37 liters) for each angelfish and several more gallons for each swordtail.
