How to Cook Snow Crab
There is nothing more succulent than eating a little snow crab with drawn butter. Add in some boiled potatoes, corn on the cob and an ice-cold beer and your taste buds will be thanking you all night long. Here are the steps on how to cook snow crab next time you're the one throwing the party.
Things You'll Need
- Stock pot
- Water
- Old bay seasoning
- Bay leaves
- Butter
- Snow crabs
- Kitchen shears
- Colander
- Ice
Instructions
-
Fill the stock pot 2/3 full with water. Add the Old Bay Seasoning and bay leaves to taste.
-
Place the stock pot on the stove and bring water to a boil.
-
Put the Snow Crabs in the water and allow to boil for 5 to 6 minutes. Remember almost all crab is pre-cooked. You are merely thawing and warming the meat inside. If you happen to find crab (or catch one) that is not cooked, it will take about 10 minutes. You're looking for the shell to turn bright red.
-
Melt the butter in the microwave while the crab is cooking. No matter what recipe you're going to make with your snow crab, it will call for butter. Get it ready for dipping or baking (like a snow crab casserole.)
-
Remove the crabs from the boiling water and place in a colander. Cover with ice to chill the temperature quickly. Allow this to rest for three minutes.
-
Dump the snow crabs on your cutting board. Flip them over and make two cuts tracing the line of the "semi-circle" on the under belly of the crab. Only cut through the top layer of shell.
-
Break the shell into two equal pieces. This makes it easier for your guests to eat. You may also separate the legs. Place on a platter and serve. Don't forget the butter.
