Can you fry chicken in olive oil?

While you can technically fry chicken in olive oil, it is not the best choice due to its low smoke point. Olive oil has a smoke point of around 375°F (190°C), while the ideal temperature for frying chicken is between 350°F (175°C) and 375°F (190°C). When heated beyond its smoke point, olive oil starts to smoke and can produce harmful compounds.

For frying chicken, it is better to use oils with a higher smoke point, such as vegetable oil, canola oil, or peanut oil. These oils can withstand higher temperatures without smoking or burning, making them safer and more suitable for frying.
