What does a blue pike fish eat?

The term "blue pike" can be confusing because it refers to two different fish:

* The "true" blue pike (Stizostedion vitreum glaucum): This species is unfortunately extinct. They were a subspecies of walleye, known for their bluish-grey color, and lived in the Great Lakes.

* The walleye (Stizostedion vitreum): This is the most likely fish you are referring to. It's still around, and often called "blue pike" in some areas.

Both of these fish are piscivores, meaning they eat other fish. Their diet includes:

* Smaller fish: such as perch, smelt, shiners, and minnows.

* Crayfish and other crustaceans

* Insects

Their hunting strategy involves lying in wait, then using their sharp teeth to ambush prey.

Important Note: While the term "blue pike" is still used, it's important to remember that the true blue pike is extinct, and referring to walleye as "blue pike" might cause confusion.
