How to Cook Baked Catfish
Catfish does not have to be a greasy, artery-clogging fried entree. Make your main dish healthier in the oven. Baked catfish does not require quarts of oil for cooking, making it a cleaner and safer alternative for the kitchen. The lack of oil also means baked catfish is healthier than fried, but no less flavorful.
Things You'll Need
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Catfish fillets
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- Seasoning blend
- Flour
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- Breadcrumbs
- 2 cups cooking sauce or 1 can condensed cream soup
- Baking pan
- Aluminum foil
Herbed Catfish
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to keep the catfish from sticking.
-
Dip the catfish fillets in the melted butter to completely coat the fish and provide a glue for the seasonings.
-
Roll the butter-coated fish in a seasoning blend of your choice.
-
Transfer the fish to the baking sheet. Bake the catfish for 17 to 20 minutes or until it breaks apart into flakes easily when cut with the side of a fork.
Crunchy Oven-fried Catfish
-
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and spray a baking pan with cooking spray.
-
Coat the catfish with a light dusting of flour on all sides, and dip into the beaten eggs.
-
Drag the catfish through the breadcrumbs to completely cover the catfish.
-
Bake the catfish at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.
-
Lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and continue to bake for another 15 minutes, or until the fish flakes with a fork.
Saucy Baked Catfish
-
Sprinkle seasoning on both sides of the catfish to add flavor, if desired, or just add salt and pepper to the fish.
-
Place the catfish in a single layer in a baking pan. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Pour the cooking sauce over the catfish in the baking pan.
-
Cover the pan with aluminum foil.
-
Bake the fish for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the catfish has cooked completely through and flakes with a fork.
