Halloween Sandwich Ideas

Offer a platter of spooky themed sandwiches at your next Halloween party. They're easy to assemble with the help of some cutting tools and a few garnishes, and they'll keep your guests well-fed throughout the long, scary night.

Creepy Cut-Outs

  • The simplest way to make a Halloween-themed sandwich is to use large cookie cutters to shape the bread into spooky shapes. White bread and ghost-shaped cutters work particularly well here, but it's not the only option. Use coffin-shaped cutters to make caskets or pumpkin-shaped cutters for jack-o'-lantern shapes. Possible sandwich fillings include peanut butter and jelly, chicken salad, egg salad, cucumbers and cream cheese, or cold cuts.

Hot Dog Mummies

  • This variation on pigs in a blanket involves cutting pizza dough, crescent roll dough, phyllo or biscuit dough into thin strips and wrapping them around a hot dog or sausage like a mummy's bandages. You can also slip in a little mustard or cheese under the "wrappings" before baking in the oven. Serve hot.

Olive Eyes

  • Transform any sandwich into a scary monster by adding pimiento-stuffed olives as "eyes." Secure with half a toothpick. If you're feeling particularly inspired, make the a "mouth" where the bread meets the filling, and add triangular teeth cut from white cheese or a tongue cut from a bell pepper or a long slice of cucumber.

Worms On A Bun

  • This Halloween dish is more creepy than spooky. Cut precooked sausages or hot dogs and bell peppers into long thin strips. Saute together until the peppers are tender and beginning to brown. Pile into a French roll or hot dog bun. The tangled strips resemble worms visually, but the taste will be familiar to anyone who loves sausage and peppers.
